Field Museum May 2009 - or The Day of the Ostrich

Forgot to post these ostrich studies a few weeks ago after a trip to the Field Museum with a couple of friends. I'm hoping to go back and study the ostrich a bit more before attempting a watercolor painting.

Enjoy.

Côte d'Ivoire

So I hopped into a cab the other day on my way to pick up some video equipment downtown. My driver, a lovely gentleman from the Ivory Coast immediately began chatting away with me in his pleasant French accent. After a few words he turned and asked, "Do you speak French?"

"No," I said, "not since High School."

"Ah," he started, "many Americans can read it or write it, but they don't speak it."

After a moment, I offered, "I'd like to brush up on my French since my wife and I are thinking about taking a trip to Belgium."

At this he lit up and inhaled deeply before bursting forth with, "Yes! Yes! You must go to Belgium! Or France!" He paused and then said, "But don't go to Canada. They're French is... funny."

I guess you learn something everyday. No offense to any Canadians out there. I'm a big fan of the Kids in the Hall... and your national film board.

Artist word for the day: Triage Art

  1. The act of creating commercial art under tight deadline constraints with little or no technical support.
  2. Taking over a project which is riddled with problems -- also under a tight deadline.
